Graduated in Marine Biology (1983) from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), Master in Biological Oceanography (1987) from the Federal University of Rio Grande (FURG) and PhD in Natural Sciences (1992) from Universitat Bremen (Germany).
He is currently a professor at the Department of Oceanography at the Federal University of Rio Grande. Conducts studies on the ecology of aquatic microorganisms in estuarine, marine and aquaculture systems.
