Abstract

In the latest edition of FAO's “World State of Fisheries and Aquaculture” (2014), the important role of these activities in eliminating hunger, promoting health and eliminating poverty was highlighted. In addition, it focused on the need to consider the environmental safety of aquaculture activity. This information was considered for the development of this research by studying the interaction between BFT-type farming systems (an important research focus as an alternative to ensure sustainable aquaculture production), the Pacific white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei), a species widely used in aquaculture , and quercetin, a flavonoid compound that has antioxidant properties.
