Graduated with honors in Biological Sciences from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1988. He received a master's degree in Biostatistics from the same University, having defended his thesis in 1993. He completed his doctorate in Biological Oceanography at the Federal University of Rio Grande - FURG in 1997. In 2013 completed postdoctoral studies in Metabolomics at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Charleston, United States.
He published 181 articles in specialized journals and 8 book chapters in the area of Oxidative Stress in Aquatic Organisms, Chemoprevention of Toxic Compounds and Nanotoxicology (3679 citations, index h: 32; database: SCOPUS). Associate Professor at the Federal University of Rio Grande - FURG, based at the Institute of Biological Sciences (ICB). Permanent professor in postgraduate programs in Aquaculture and Physiological Sciences. He is an evaluator of scientific projects submitted to national and foreign agencies and scientific reviewer in more than 50 international journals and member of the editorial board of the journals Acta Toxicológica Argentina and Chemistry and Ecology.
