Graduated in Oceanology from the Federal University of Rio Grande (1993), master's degree in Ciencias del Mar - Universidad Católica del Norte (1998), doctorate in Biological Oceanography from the Federal University of Rio Grande (2004) and post-doctorate in the Department of Natural Resources - South Carolina (USA).
He is currently an adjunct professor at the Institute of Oceanography at the Federal University of Rio Grande (FURG), where he works as a professor in Oceanology, Biology courses and the Aquaculture Postgraduate program. He has experience in the area of Fishery Resources and Biological Oceanography, with an emphasis on Carcinoculture, acting mainly on the following themes: shrimp farming, social and environmental impact of aquaculture, wastewater treatment, multi-trophic crops (fish, shrimp and mollusks), and cultivation in alternative structures for artisanal fishermen and rural producers.
